On July 22, 2024, the youth delegation from Yeongdo District of Busan, the Republic of Korea, visited Huangpu District, and carried out a five-day exchange program with the youth delegation from Huangpu District, composed of students from the Tenth High School of Shanghai.
In the afternoon, YUAN Yuan, the deputy district mayor of Huangpu District People’s Government, met with the head and leader of the Yeongdo District youth delegation. They were accompanied by GUO Jinhua, Director of the Huangpu District Education Bureau, JIN Yi, the deputy director, QIU Wen, deputy office director of the Huangpu District People’s Government, WANG Feihong, the party secretary of the Tenth High School of Shanghai, Principal WANG Zhiyuan and other leaders.
Deputy District Mayor YUAN Yuan extended a warm welcome to the youth delegation from Yeongdo District, Busan, and provided an overview of Huangpu District, particularly its efforts in promoting high-quality development in education. She emphasized that since the strategic cooperation agreement was signed between Yeongdo District of Busan and Huangpu District of Shanghai, both sides have established a close partnership in various fields, especially in talent development. She expressed the commitment of Huangpu Education to continue leveraging its advanced educational resources to support regional economic and social development, and looked forward to building a deeper cooperative relationship with Yeongdo District, particularly in cultural exchange, talent cultivation, and high-quality development. Both sides exchanged gifts and envisioned further cooperation and exchanges in the future.
The Tenth High School of Shanghai warmly welcomed the youth delegation from the friendly city. The school held a welcoming ceremony, where Principal WANG Zhiyuan delivered a welcoming speech, expressing the hope that this friendly visit would further enhance cultural exchange and friendly interactions between the younger generations of both China and the Republic of Korea, and strengthen the friendly cooperation between Huangpu District of Shanghai and Yeongdo District of Busan.
The youth from both sides introduced themselves, and expressed eagerness towards the upcoming five days of homestay exchange activities.
Then, the members of the youth delegations from China and the Republic of Korea jointly visited the historical site of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. With the guide’ s explanations, the students learned about the history of mutual reliance, support and aiding under shared hardships, deeply feeling the indelible historical ties between China and Korea. Both groups of students developed a shared understanding of the importance of remembering history, honoring the martyrs, cherishing peace, and creating a brighter future. After the visit, the students went to the Xintiandi Fashion Center, where they experienced Shanghai’s historical charm while also immersing themselves in cutting-edge fashion trends.
The Youth Homestay Exchange Program is a key sister-city-cooperation initiative held between Huangpu District of Shanghai, China, and Yeongdo District of Busan, the Republic of Korea. Since 2002, both sides have been sending high school students to each other’s cities for homestay visits during winter and summer vacations. Each visiting group consists of 2 teachers and 10 students. As of January 2020, the program has been running for 19 years, involving approximately 386 Chinese and Korean teachers and students who participated in the exchanges. This program greatly enhanced mutual understanding and friendship among the youth from both sides and received high praise from the educational authorities, schools and other institutions of both sides. Since 2018, the Tenth High School of Shanghai has represented Huangpu District in this program, and the school’s teachers and students have maintained a strong relationship with their counterparts in Yeongdo District. The school also hopes to continue this friendship, contributing to the promotion of friendly relations between the two countries while learning about each other’s cultures.
