Located at the economic, administrative and cultural center of Shanghai, Huangpu District is the oldest district in Shanghai’s history. With abundant cultural and educational resources, the development of education in Huangpu has achieved on a higher forum.

There are about 20 century-old schools in Huangpu District. Jingye High School has a history of more than 270 years, which is the oldest middle school in Shanghai. Gezhi High School has a history of more than 145 years, which is the earliest school teaching modern science by using modern school system. SHNU Meixi Primary School Huangpu has a history of more than 140 years, which is the first primary school with modern school system.

There are 130 educational units in the district, including 32 middle schools, 27 primary schools, 43 kindergartens or childcare centers, 5 vocational schools, 4 special education schools and so on.
